About 10 people have replied and corrected bigandy on his faux pas. I think we can let it go now, okay folks? :)

Here are some photos I took at the launch... I resized them to 350px as the forum script was re-encoding them and they had horrible JPEG artefacts over the thumbnails previously.

Now we are playing with power.
Yeah a whopping 3V which means it will take 40% longer to recharge anything using the new connector unless they increase the amperage to compensate.

My first post after a long time of lurking so go easy.......
Are people overestimating Apple's motives? Could it perhaps not be a masterplan but just that the new motherboard, etc they are using just happens to have this component so it's been included?
That could explain why it's hidden around the back. If being placed on the back is deliberate it could just be for aesthetics sake as ports on the front will look messy.

Did they really need a media event for such a small update?
I didn't think it was over yet and even if it is why wouldn't they want to show off what they've done?

A co-worker and I called around and found three 16gb at a store. Went to get one apiece and luckily got the last two. They were reluctant to sell them to us for some reason though. :D

Might buy a macbook or maybe just Leo and save up for a MBP. Not sure yet.

What about denying somebody a job because of their, say, intelligence? Charisma? Any number of things that are largely predetermined?
I used to work for a Major Music retailer and when interviewing people we always decided who would get the job based upon personality... If say we had 10 CV's these would already be the good CV's as the bad ones never got to the interview stage...
So out of the 10 candidates be they White, Black or Asian, Male or Female the one that got the job would be the one whom we felt would bring the most to the team.
IE would we like to spend time with this person outside of work as well as inside.

Make the RAM user upgradable even if it means only having one ram slot. I really feel strongly about this because it seems that the MBA is morphing into a full functional iPad with a keyboard. :(
I can not help wonder if this is going to put more laptops in landfills this way. There are many people that can't afford ordering the ultimate BTO option and are able to upgrade the components over time.
What do you think?

If you live in the northeast I can tell you definitely there are many places where data coverage goes out - it's just a fact of terrain. There are many places where you would need a cell tower every hundred feet to have complete coverage - and that ain't happening. I'll give you and example - Greenwich, CT has terrible data coverage - this is a rich area, maybe 35 miles from NYC and data coverage is terrible. I've seen it first hand, this not speculation.
I use TomTom - it has all the maps of the US and Canada - it works in the middle of nowhere in the backcountry even without cell or data coverage.
Now - to be out in the middle of nowhere and have the app say it needs data - and that you can't get your street or turning info - well that is just profoundly stupid. They need to have the option to download at least your full region within 200 to 500 miles - otherwise I just would not trust it as my gps system. No way. Case closed.

Yes, if anyone starts that @#% up again I will punch a room full of children.
If you want a reaction, shouldn't you be threatening to be punching the children rather than the room they are in?

If you are concerned about letting friends see where you are, create a list called "placesfriends" and use privacy settings to only show your "Places I check in" to friends on that list.

I don't see Apple getting more than 10% marketshare anytime soon unless they do something significant.
I don't know anybody who has switched. I've known a few people who seriously considered it, but when they learned they'd have to spend another $200 for Windows XP so they can run their 'XP Only' things, they settled on a PC.
Price and functionality. That's what drives todays computer market.
Yes, you'll have people buying the Intel iMac.. most of the 'switchers' will do so just because it's a neat looking box. They'll still be using Windows on it.
PC sales are always down on the eve of a new OS release. Nobody wants to buy a new computer with yesterdays OS on it.
The people i've talked with aren't interested in running dual OS's. They aren't interested in having to restart their computer to run this app, then restart again to run that other app.
They just want to sit down and use the computer to do whatever it is they want to do, then get on with life.
And they want to do it without spending a bunch of money.
As long as Micro$oft keeps making Windows, and HP/Compaq/Dell keep making $499 computers, the WinTel platform will be the dominant platform.
If I were Apple, I would have made an AMD powered, or fast single core HT capable Intel Mini and introduced it in the sub $400 price range and sold them right along side the X Boxes and PS2's at WalMart.
Selling such a unit, in such an accessable venue would certianly increase marketshare, and with increased marketshare comes increased software development.. which does nothing add value to their higher end, high margin systems like the iMac and Mac Pro.

Really like the tone and the kind of retro feel. It's simple but it works well.

I watched a discovery channel show a few years ago where I think Spain was selling phones with a chip in them to act as a bus pass.
I would really like to see something like the OP become main stream. I like the MasterCard PayPass idea but you still need to take out a card and deal with your wallet; but if it was as easy as waving a phone and a pin code, I'd love it.

BTW.... Word and Excel are the only two applications from MS I like... and others are right. Pages and Numbers can't hold a candle to Office... yet.
But I have always found it annoying that many times while trouble shooting or surfing MS web site you're constantly reminded you're not running the latest version of Windows. Subtle marketing I guess?

The magnifying glass indicates Farbwerte
Woohoo! Finally, Aperture's magnifying glass includes added go-faster Farbwerte! I hope that's 64-bit Farbwerte, because this cat don't dig no other Farbwerte!

Everyone is dressed up but Steve....awesome.
Not really. It's his trademark - after all, Steve Jobs is another product from Apple's marketing department.
I'm rather disappointed that Mark Zuckerberg did not appear in casual clothes as well. I would have expected more from him.
